Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects for Final Cut Pro X

Light effects can make a dull video look exciting. Over the course of the past couple of years, companies such as Crumplepop and Rampant Design Tools have been releasing light effects specifically for Final Cut Pro X and/or as QuickTime movies usable anywhere. Tangent Fx has now released a set of very spectacular effects both specifically for Final Cut Pro X and in QuickTime movie clip format.

The Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects are suitable for video of up to 1080p. They don’t support 2K or 4K. That’s a pity, because these effects are so good you’ll want to use them with as many projects as you can. Having said that, not all project types will take advantage of Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects, as they fit a somewhat technical subject, surreal compositions and sci-fi projects.

When you install Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects, you’ll get 20 effects under the Title tab and 20 identical ones under the Transitions tab. With identical I am referring to the design of the effect. Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects are in essence flashes of light running from across the frame. However, the nature of these light streaks is such that they fit technical footage brilliantly. For example, a sliding shot of a shiny new car will look even better with one of these Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects applied to it. It will look even better when the shot is static — in that case the light effect will add dynamism to the shot without distracting from the subject itself.

The light effects themselves are much the same as the Rampant Design collection. They’re by default title effects, so you can drag a Tangent Fx effect above the timeline and adjust the effect’s impact by playing with the Compositing controls. The Title effect has different controls as well. You can position the effect higher or lower in the frame and more to the right or the left as well, but that will only work well if your subject has a large enough bright spot to conceal the title frame’s borders.

The controls also include a Mirror parameter which allows you to double the effect with the secondary one mirroring the first.

The transitions have the same controls — simple transitions usually come without controls at all — and they’re even more brilliant, as in my opinion, they match a larger number of subjects, including “dull” ones. The QuickTime movies are perhaps the least appealing of all. They of course don’t have controls. On the other hand, if you open these in Motion or After Effects, you can manipulate them with the full tool box of those applications available to you. A skilled designer will surely be able to create stunning comps with them.

In order to fully understand what Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects can do for your video project, you should have some idea as to what they actually look like in footage, which is why I am including an example here. The Tangent Fx Designed Light Effects | Designer Flare Effects cost approx. €19.00.
