Creating a subclip in Final Cut Pro X

This video tip shows you how to create a sub clip from a larger videoclip in the Final Cut Pro X Event browser. It’s simple and quick, but it’s a completely different way of working than with traditional NLEs.

What you’ll need: FCPX and a videoclip that has a long enough duration to chop up into smaller pieces.

What we’ll do: we will create a sub clip by creating keywords, which in FCPX serve to make “Collections”. When a keyword is applied to a clip or a section of a clip, a Keyword Collection appears in the Event Library. A Keyword Collection contains pointers (aliases) to clips tagged with a specific keyword.

From one master clip, you can create as many sub clips as you want this way.
